KHI truck teams to run for ESR next season – NASCAR news
Eddie Sharp Racing (ESR) announced on Friday, Septemebr 23, that they had purchased the Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) Truck Series teams and they will run for ESR from next season.
KHI had announced the closure of their truck teams earlier this month and ESR, who currently have one team running in the Camping World Truck Series, have decided to take over those teams from next season.
With the acquisition, ESR will now have three teams running in the 2012 season. They have the No.6 truck of Justin Loft and will be adding the No.8 and No.33 trucks of Kevin Harvick to their stable.
The two trucks will run from KHI until the end of the season due to sponsorship commitments but will be operating out of Eddie Sharp Racing’s 40,000 square foot facility in Denver N.C from next season.
Eddie Sharp was pleased with the acquisition and said, "it was a no brainer."
Sharp gave credit to Kevin Harvick and his wife DeLana for building the organisation but said that he now wanted ESR to take over and make a name for itself in the series.
Kevin Harvick had decided to part with his truck teams after deciding to concentrate solely on the Sprint Cup. Harvick had already announced the merging of his Nationwide Series teams with Richard Childress Racing (RCR).
Harvick was also happy with the way everything had played out as one of his main concerns was the future of all the people currently employed by KHI and with this acquisition, both sides are in a win-win situation.
Sharp was also keen on keeping Harvick’s employees working at their teams and did not want to make too many wholesale changes.
“Kevin's done a h**l of a job assembling awesome people. I would be a fool to not make it work.” said Sharp. “That was part of what made it attractive for Kevin to work with me, is that it was important to me to keep those guys working as it was for him. “
Sharp could also be in for a fourth team, with discussions to bring Harvick’s part time No.2 truck also underway.
“If I can put everything together," Sharp said. "It could become four tomorrow."
