KJ Choi looking forward to a successful staging of the CJ Invitational Hosted by KJ Choi
KJ Choi of Korea, who plays on the Asian Tour as an honorary member, will return to his homeland, in a bid to host a co-sanctioned event by the Asian Tour and the Korean Golf Tour – the CJ Invitational Hosted by KJ Choi.
The tournament will be played at the prestigious Haesley Nine Bridges Golf Club, from Thursday, October 4 to 7, 2012.
Since 1999, Choi is settled in the United States. However, he decided to return to his country with an idea of paying back to the community where he grew up.
All the proceeds from the tournament will be donated to the Build a Nest campaign, a charity initiative under the KJ Choi Foundation.
Moreover, the participants volunteer themselves as the ambassadors of the charity foundation and donate KRW 100,000 for each birdie they score during the tournament.
“This tournament extends beyond the boundaries of just playing a tournament. It’s more of a community thing and giving back to society and my fans,” Choi shared.
“When I play in the US, all the people from Korea would cheer me on TV even though it’s very late in the night there. Without my fan’s support, I wouldn’t be able to be where I’m today,” said Choi.
This year will be the second staging of the event, featuring some of the prominent names from all over the world.
According to the five-time Asian Tour winner, the tournament will also bring up a number of his friends to the course. Therefore, the tournament will act like a reunion for him and many of his friends.
“It’s a very meaningful event as I’ve all of my close friends coming to play in my tournament and also participate in this build a nest program which is going to help many kids fulfill their dreams,” said Choi, the winner of last year’s Players Championship.
He will also be a part of the tournament this year, making him only the fourth player in the history of the sport to compete in a self-hosted tournament.
Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer are the other three players who usually play in their own events.
