KJ Choi successfully defends his title at the CJ Invitational Hosted by KJ Choi
KJ Choi carded a four-under par 67 in the final round on Sunday and successfully defended his title at the CJ Invitational Hosted by KJ Choi on October 7, 2012. The tournament was being played at the prestigious Haesley Nine Bridges Golf Club in Yeoju, South
Korea.
Choi became the first Asian player in the history of the sport to host the co-sanctioned event by the Asian Tour and the Korean Golf Tour.
The 42-year-old is known for his dedication to charitable causes. After winning the US$118, 875, he decided to donate the full amount to his KJ Choi Foundation. His did the same last year too.
“I’ve always said that this tournament is all about giving back to the community and that’s what I’m going to do with my winnings. I’ll never be where I’m today if not for golf and the great support from everyone,” said Choi.
Choi got off to a confident start by birdying two of the first four holes that he played.  He then lost a shot on the ninth hole to reach the turn with a one-under par score.
However, the blemish to end the back nine did not shatter his confidence and he bounced back strongly with a run of three straight birdies, starting from the 11th hole.
“Once I got through those nine holes (front nine), three key elements came back into my game- see, feel and trust,” said the Korean superstar.
He added, “I could see, feel and trust every aspect of my ball striking as well as putting and from then on, I was really confident that I would go on and win”.
His compatriot, Bae Sang-Moon, in the meantime, gave him a tough time on top of the leaderboard.
Sang-Moon remained in contention for the top spot, until he lost a stroke on the 14th hole. At the end of the final round, he settled for a 13-under par tournament score, just two behind Choi, and shared the second position.
Jang Dong-Kyu was the other player who carded the same tournament score to join him at the second spot on the leaderboard.
