KJ Choi to make entry at Commercialbank Qatar Masters
With the beginning of Commercialbank Qatar Masters, from February 2nd till the 5th, it will once again redefine the hype and excitement associated with the events of golf.
The exhilaration allied with the event has further been festooned with the entry of the prominent and reputable South Korean golfer, KJ Choi.
The event, carrying a total purse of $2.5 million, has for long attracted European and American golfers to test their golfing skills.
Even though it has mostly been Europeans who triumphed in getting hold of the trophy, this time it is being anticipated that the results will definitely be different.
With golfers like Martin Kaymer, Lee Westwood and Jason Day adding to the star-studded line-up of the event, the tournament will definitely be worth watching.
According to Hassan Al Nuaimi, President of the Qatar Golf Association (QGA) and the chief organiser of the event, “It’s a great honour for us to have KJ Choi confirmed for his first ever appearance in the tournament”.
He also added that with eight victories added to his portfolio, along with The Players Championship, Choi is one of the most successful golfers in Asia.
In addition to this, he also holds the degree of being one of the first Asian golfers to make space in World Rankings.
Hassan Al Nuaimi further stated, “Many US PGA Tour stars have played here in Qatar and we are delighted they are spreading the word on the quality of the Commercialbank Qatar Masters and the challenge of Doha Golf Club”.
The inclusion of Choi in the Middle East event also manifests the different stages and toils he has gone through to achieve his status as a prominent golfer in the world.
The son of a farmer, at a very early age, began to show interest in the sport and was able to cough up 350 pounds with the help of his golfing skills at the age of thirteen.
Regardless of his troublesome background, Choi has always been an advocate of philanthropy.
This can further be vindicated from the fact that he donated $200,000 after winning the Players Championship to the affectees of the deadly tornado disaster that took place in 2011.
