The triumphant Kolkata Knight Riders' skipper, Gautam Gambhir, dedicated their maiden IPL trophy to the Kolkata people, saying that fans back home deserve every bit of the success as they have been backing the team even when they were not performing well.
“KKR fans deserve every bit of the success. They've always backed us,” said the 30-year-old left-handed opening batsman while speaking to the media reporters at the post-match press conference.
“I said this before as well: when things weren't going our way they stood by us. This is not our victory; this is a victory for the fans of KKR,” Gambhir added further.

Besides being a competent skipper, Gambhir led the side from the front with the bat, playing a key role in KKR’s maiden IPL victory. The left-hander amassed a tally of 590 runs in 17 games, including six half centuries as well. Gambhir however, refused from
taking the credit, saying it was the team effort that earned them the title in the end.
Replying to a query regarding the KKR co-owner, Shah Rukh Khan, Gambhir said that the Bollywood superstar has been a great owner, who kept motivating the players without interfering much into team matters.
“He's been a great owner. Not once in the tournament has he put any pressure on me or the team. Though we started by losing the first two games, he never interfered with the cricket aspects,” said Gambhir, who moved to Kolkata last season, after playing

“There has been the suggestion that he has interfered in the past, but ever since I was made captain he has not interfered with the cricket,” the left-hander added further.
The KKR co-owner found himself involved in a number of controversies this season, including a spat with MCA officials and smoking publically in Jaipur. Gambhir said that after SRK had seen a lot of lows and controversies, it was necessary for the team win
the trophy for him.
