KLHC thrashed SSTMI in the first-leg Malaysian Hockey League Quarter-finals
Kuala Lumpur Hockey Club (KLHC), Premier Division champions, emerged triumphant over Tengku Mahkota Ismail Sports School (SSTMI), Division One winners, in the first leg quarter-final of the 2011 Malaysian Hockey League (MHL), Kuala Lumpur Hockey Stadium,
Pantai.
KLHC powered a 7-0 win in the one-sided match, making it nine wins in a row.
Mohd Razie Abdul Rahim was the real architect of the victory, scoring a hat-trick and assisting his team to uphold their winning streak.
Despite winning the match with a large margin, KLHC Coach R. Vivekanandan was not satisfied with the performance of his team. In his views, the squad contested one of the worst games of the league.
While briefing the media following the triumph, the KLHC Coach said that they failed to show an organised play despite having number of national players.
He observed, “We have a number of national players in the team but there was no proper and structured way of playing in the match. The tempo of the game was slow and there was no urgency among the players.”
KLHC lifted the Premier Division title and is eyeing at creating history to win its second consecutive double-title in the league.
It is vital to mention here that no club has attained back to back double-title since the beginning of the league in 1985.
The coach also lashed out at the poor defence of the team against a comparatively younger side.
“The schoolboys managed to penetrate into the D a number of times in the match. And they even had six shots at goal. They could have scored if not for some good goalkeeping by Roslan (Jamaluddin). My players need to buck up”, he added.
Kuala Lumpur Hockey Club opened the game with an offensive mind and registered its first goal in the 10th minute of the mark.
Tengku Ahmad Tajuddin opened the score by striking a fantastic drag flick.
However, they took another 19 minutes to double the tally. Mohd Razie Abdul Rahim converted a short corner in the 29th minute.
Chua Boon Huat and Razie accounted for one goal apiece in the 33rd and 35th minutes respectively, to close the first period at 4-0.
In the second half, the pace of the game slowed down. KLHC acquired only three goals in thirty-five minutes of play.
With nine minutes into the second half, Razie completed his hat-trick by whacking a penalty corner.
Misron and Tengku Ahmad Tajuddin scored one goal each in the 55th and 70th minutes respectively to seal the win at 7-0.
Although the young players of SSTMI put up a commendable performance against KLHC, they could not withstand their contenders and ended up losing with no goals to their acclaim.
