Question:

KNITTING HELP! I'm adding fringe to a scarf and...?

I'm doing it by hand, it's taking forever! I have one side done.

I read that you should use a crochet hook while adding fringe,

I don't have one. Is there something that works as a good alternative to a crochet hook?

  1. Try the end of the knitting needle.  It won't grab as well as a crochet hook would, but it beats trying to poke the fringe through with your fingers!

  2. you could use a rug latch hook if you have one.A safety pin would work also-just put it around the center of your fringe piece(s)and pull through, take pin off-then pull both ends through the fringe center

  3. If you have a humungo-jumbo yarn sewing needle, use that.  Thread the needle and poke it through.  You'll be rethreading the needle a lot, but it's much easier than trying to use just your fingers.  To thread yarn through a huge sewing needle, fold the yarn and poke the folded part through the eye of the needle.  Pull the yarn so the loose end comes through the eye, too.  Works like a charm.

  4. Get an old fork and bend three of the prongs off of it or bend them out of the way and then with the fourth , bend it to form a hook.  Use a needle point pliers to do this or if you don't,  just grab on to the very end and slowly bend it back.
