Even though Preud’homme’s men will face Ajax Amsterdam a week after the final in a title deciding league game, the Belgian trainer is taking the Dutch cup final seriously and has claimed that winning the cup is his secondary aim after the league title.
Preud’homme said, “The summit is only concerned with the next game. In a situation where you are playing European football where you sometimes take into account the physical constitution of individual players. However, we now have to play only one game per week and we will go at full blast. Even the players must remain in rhythm.”
The 52-year-old tactician is not ready to take the competition lightly and wants to bring the third Cup to De Grolsch Veste. The Belgian trainer has also urged his bench players to be fully prepared for the upcoming match.
Preud’homme added, “Even those who sit on the bench on Sunday must remain sharp and ready at the time when an appeal is made to them. For me the Cup final and the league match against Ajax are two isolated events. The Cup is very important award for us.”
The Tukkers sit atop the league table, a solitary point ahead of the second placed Ajax. Preud’homme knows that his side has the perfect opportunity to win the domestic treble, as the Tukkers have already won the Johan Cruijff Shield earlier this season. They need a win or a draw against the Amsterdammers on the final day of the season to lift the Eredivisie title.
However, the Cup final will certainly demand extra effort on the pitch from Twente as they are set to face an impressive Amsterdam outfit. That being said, the Tukkers have played extremely well this season, and Preud’homme has every right to remain confident of his side’s treble ambitions.
