KS Jastrzebski Wegiel sweeps Trinity Western Spartans Vancouver: Volleyball
The KS Jastrzebski Wegiel of Poland had a match with the Canadian club the Trinity Western Spartans Vancouver on Tuesday, October 11, as part of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship that is currently being played in Doha, Qatar. The Polish squad
dominated 3-0 to take the win.
The match between the two sides did not take long to reach its close as the Polish were able to bag three consecutive sets to win the match in a clean sweep. The first set of the match was fairly one sided as the Polish managed to stay in control throughout
the frame. The Trinity Western Spartans able to step up their game in the second set but the Polish proved to be the better side. The third set saw a half hearted effort from the Canadians that did not make it too hard for the Polish to win the set at the
following final set scores: 25-17, 25-20 and 25-18.
The coach of the KS Jastrzebski Wiegel club, Lorenzo Bernardi made the following comments at the press conference after the match had reached its close: “First of all I would like to thank, but also congratulate the Canadian team. It's still a very young
team, which faced several great opponents, but fought for every ball. I wish them good luck for the future. I'm very happy with this victory. It was very important for us. We still haven't won anything yet, but I think we are ready to play against the strongest
teams in the world.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Trinity Western Spartans club, Ben Josephson, shared his feelings in the following manner: “Today was another tough match. Another great team across the net. You could see the difference in the chips, but we did good on
our blocks.”
The Polish were able to get the lead at the start of the first set at 6-2 and extend their advantage to 15-11. The Trinity Western kept trailing behind all through the match but they could not overcome the strong skills of the Polish and lost the set at
17-25.
The second set saw a tie at 6-6 and later on at 11-11. The match remained close until the second technical time out that saw the Polish take the lead at 16-13. Once the two sides came back onto the courts, the Polish charged ahead for a 25-20 win. The loss
of the first two sets of the game further dampened the spirits of the Canadians that gave the Polish an easy win at 25-18.
The player that was able to register the most points in the entire match was Michal Lasko of Jastrzebski Wegiel, who made his mark by putting up a total of 17 points. On the other hand, the most active Trinity Western player was Bradley Kufske, who tallied
11 points in the entire match.
