KS Jastrzebski Weigel sweeps Paykan Tehran in FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship match
The FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship has started in Doha with the first day being conducted on 8th of October. KS Jastrzebski Weigel from Poland and Paykan Tehran belonging to Iran played a match against each other in the opening
day of the event in Qatar.
The match between the two sides did not take long to reach its close as Paykan Tehran were swept by KS Jastrzebski Weigel. The first set was the only one in which the Iranians were able to give the Polish a challenge but they failed to swing the momentum
towards themselves and ended up losing the opening frame. The loss of the first set did not do well for the confidence of the Iranians as the Polish secured themselves the second and the third frames as well and won the match at the following final set scores:
25-18, 25-14 and 25-14.
Coach Lorenzo Bernardi of KS Jastrzebski Wegiel made the following comments at the press conference about the match that his team had won: “Thanks for the congratulation. We knew that the Iranian team had some problems, but also my team have problems. My
players had gathered short time ago and they need to play more matches in order to gain confidence. We are happy for the victory and we are looking forward to play the next match.”
On the other hand, the coach of Paykan Tehran, Peyman Akbari, shared his feelings by making the following statements: “Congratulation for the Polish team. We started our training sessions 10 days ago and to participate in such a big competition you have
to prepare yourself since two months ago.”
The first set of the match started off in an even fashion with both the teams almost neck to neck with each other. The Polish managed a thin lead at 8-7 but when they were able to stretch the advantage to 10-7, the Iranians called for a time out in hopes
to break the building momentum of their opponents. The match remained tight at 17-15, in favour of the Polish but Paykan could not contain the Polish squad afterwards as they charged ahead with a 25-18 win.
After the Polish had won the first set of the game, the second and the third sets came easy for them as Paykan did not put up a significant competition, losing the frames at 25-14 each.
The player that was able to register the most points among both the teams was Zbigniew Bartman who belonged to KS Jastrzebski Wegiel. Bartman was able to post a total of 11 points in the entire match. The most active player on the Paykan Tehran’s side was
Reza Safaei who made his presence felt by adding seven points for his team.
