  1. a ktm is faster, but the parts cost a lot more money the a honda or yamaha. But i would buy a honda over both of them

  2. 450 SX-F  YZ450F

    MANUFACTURER;;; KTM    /Yamaha

    MODEL YEAR;;;; 2008        /2008

    MODEL;;; 450 SX-F            / YZ450F

    M.S.R.P.;;;; $7,298.00         / $7,099.00

    Engine;;;;; 1-cylinder, 4-stroke, 4-valves, DOHC, liquid-cooled

                                                     /Liquid-cooled, 5 titanium valves, DOHC, 4-stroke

    Displacement;;;;; 449.3 cc            /449 cc

    Bore x Stroke;;; 97 x 60.8 mm      /95 x 63.4 mm

Seat Height;;;; 36.42 in.               /38.9 in.

    Transmission;;; 4-gears              / 5-speed

ok from what i see the yamaha is 200$ cheaper

the yamaha has 5 valves over the ktm 4 valves

the ktm has 449.3cc over the yamahas 449cc

borexstroke is the same as above^ it = 449/449.3cc

i dont know much about compression ratio but i gave you the info incase you want to figure it out

the yamaha is 11 pounds lighter than the ktm so its easier to pick up when it falls.. not by much but it all helps

the wheelbase is basicaly the same

the ktm holds 2.17 gallons and the yamaha holds less.. only1.9 gallons

the yamahas seat hight is about 3 inches higher so its harder to balence on

the yamaha has 5 gears so that means its geared towards low end wich matters most in racing (acceleration)

over all id have to say the yamaha even tho the ktm is raced out already and ktm makes great bikes quads everythign so does yamaha and yamahas reputation for great quality goes way back and that is pretty much a guarentee ul love the yz450f

dont get me wronge ktms are nice but how i see it is the yamaha is better for racing.. i assume mx and not drag racing

drag racing the ktm would win but in MX racing or trail riding that you will probably do most id have to say yamaha.

btw if your not going to do mx and trail ride id say get a quad

look into a nice yfz450 or a yamaha blaster.. blaster to learn on they are only 700$ on ebay then once you learn on that buy a nice new yfz450 trust me trail riding a bike isnt exactly fun

  3. last year grant langston won on the yamaha at the outdoor nationals

    i have a white 08 yz450f and i love it

light and nimble, good torque and power,

its hard and expensive to get ktm parts if you need a part

    go blue

  4. if you want the one better for performance i would go with the ktm. ktm bikes come race ready with v force reed valves, a weisco piston, hydraulic disc brakes and clutch, after-market suspension and excel rims.

  5. both are great bikes, and either one will do just fine for you. Go to the dealership and sit on them. The Yamaha feels bigger and more roomy than the KTM. The KTM feels a bit smaller to me....

But the KTM does come with the electric start, which is way cool.......

  6. First off i woul like to say that KTM's are excellent machines, but,KTM's parts and maintneance  are pretty expensive.  call your local ktm dealer and ask them how much an oil filter is for and oil change, and you will see..

  7. Im a HONDA fan but i think the pick of the two would be the KTM 450sxf. My mate has a KTM 85sx and its a really great bike!

  8. Well obviously not many people here, if any, have ridden them both side by side. In Dirt Riders test last month they stated that this was the closest that 450's had ever been in years past. They said it was almost impossible to choose a winner with the exception of the KTM. Their comment was "We're not sure why anyone would choose the KTM with so many other great choices in this class.". I like KTM's myself but the 450 is not very popular at the track to say the least. Personally I would go with the Yamaha or Honda (which was the shootout winner).
