Am in the process of getting my bike registered (NSW, Aus) and when getting CTP quotes the question arose as to whether it was an exc or exc-r. How do you tell and whats the difference? Anybody?

  2. Obviously the first difference is the "R" code. But other than that the bikes are pretty much the exact same motors. The "R" in the EXC-R stands for nothing more than Race. It is built to come straight from the showroom floor and put on the race track. I have two friends that have these 525's and they are phenomenal machines. Neither is the "R" model and I really do not think it matters. These things are serious torgue MONSTERS. I raced 125's for years and 250's for years on top of that. Now riding a crf450 and this 525 still has tons of power over my bike. Great machine. If you can handle the KTM fixes all the time.
