KV Racing Technology confirmed to run new Chevrolet engines in 2012 IndyCar season – IndyCar news
KV Racing Technology has confirmed that it will be using Chevrolet engines in the 2012 IndyCar Series season.
The engines will be run with news technical package applied by IndyCar officials.
It is the third team to join hands with Chevrolet. Previously the team used Lotus engines to power its machines for the last two seasons.
Team Penske and Andretti Autosport have already confirmed their switch to Chevy power plants for 2012.
KVRT co-owner Kevin Kalkhoven said, “I am very pleased to announce that KV Racing Technology has reached an agreement to compete with Chevrolet power during the 2012 IndyCar season. Chevy has a proven history of innovation and success in motorsports and
we look forward to continuing that legacy.”
Jimmy Vasser, who also co-owns KVRT, has collected his first podium with a Chevy engine. During his initial two years of racing, he used a Chevy-powered racecar.
Vasser said, “I am very excited Chevrolet is returning to IndyCar racing and that we will have the opportunity to work with them. I have a long personal history with Chevrolet. My first car was a 1969 Camaro, my first podium was with a Chevy engine in 1993
at Phoenix and, I am proud to say, that I am a Chevy dealer.”
He further added that the team is looking forward to have a successful racing season with Chevrolet and hopes to continue its partnership for many years.
The team participates with three drivers Tony Kanaan, Takuma Sato and E.J. Viso. Currently the KVRT’s driver Kanaan has finished the 2011 season in fifth place after the event held at Las Vegas.
During the last race at Las Vegas, Dan Wheldon died in a fatal crash. The multi-car wreckage that was triggered by a car slowed on the turn, caused fatality of the British driver.
The Lotus Group is also developing a new engine to fit the new proposed regulations by IndyCar officials. The new engine regulations will be applied in the 2012 season.
However, Michael Shank’s team has decided to run with Lotus power plants in the next season, whereas some will use Honda racing engines as it is the official sponsor of the series.
