Kaersten Meitz wins Women's 800m freestyle gold: Day one – USA Swimming Sectionals, Pleasant Prairie
Kaersten Meitz of Waukesha Express claimed gold medal of the Women's 800m freestyle on foremost day of the 2012 USA Swimming Sectionals in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin at the Lake Forest Swim Club on Thursday, March 8.
The Pleasant Prairie meet is a four-day swimming event that is a branch of the 2012 Speedo Champions Series.
The 16-year-old Meitz faced no trouble in proving her eligibility for the title of the event. Her team-member, Dorothy Halmy tried hard to overcome her efforts in the sixteen-lap freestyle event but she failed to achieve so and ended second.
Meitz remained prominent for the gold spot throughout the race and made her way to the victory stand for gold medal by clocking an effort of 8 minutes and 59.77 seconds. Meitz’s scintillating effort placed her almost four seconds ahead of her closest rival, Halmy, who reached the medal rostrum for silver medal by clocking a time of 9 minutes and 03.46 seconds.
The second position holder of the race was trailed by Rachel Stoehr of Lake Forest Swim Club, who remained nearly nine seconds away from crushing her former finisher and settled on the finishing end as bronze medallist by producing a time of 9 minutes and 12.04 seconds.
The 18-year-old Stoehr stayed 3.46 seconds ahead of Meitz’s teammate, Natalie Clausen, who proved her eligibility for the fourth fastest spot of the event by touching the wall in a time of 9 minutes and 15.50 seconds. Savannah Rose of Colorado Athletics was 0.92 seconds behind her former finisher as she surfaced on the finishing blockade for fifth position with the timing of 9 minutes and 16.42 seconds.
Vipers of Albuquerque’s Nikola Fellows remained considerably slower from Rose and posted a time of 9 minutes and 20.56 seconds. Meridith Boudreaux secured seventh position of the event as she clocked a time of 9 minutes and 24.87 seconds. Brianna Krupsky was the eighth fastest finisher of the event as she finished her race in a time of 9 minutes and 26.66 seconds.
In addition, the session ended after the conclusion of all events while the position holders collected their accolades after the session.
