Men’s Doubles team of Malaysia Kah Ming Chooi-Yao Han Ow may lack in experience at senior level but still they registered their mark in recently concluded Malaysia Open GP Gold 2012.
The spirited duo ended this home event as runners-up despite of the presence of prime couples like Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong, Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif-Mohd Fairuzizuan, Goh V Shem-Lim Khim Wah and Mohd Lutfi Zaim-Vountus Indra Mawan.
Men’s Doubles experts Kah Ming Chooi and Yao Han Ow opened their marathon against the compatriot duo Jagdish Singh-Hong Kheng Yew and wrapped the show in just two games.
They registered favourable figures of 21-13 and 21-13 to secure a spot in second round where they were up against the Chinese pair Bao Duc Duong-Hoang Nam Nguyen.
This pre quarter-final tussle turned a real test of their mental and physical strength as it prolonged to three exhausting sets.
The Malaysian lads forged admirable chemistry to edge their challengers who knelt down after reading 21-14, 11-21 and 21-16 scores on the board.
This splendid triumph pit them against their country fellows Mohd Lutfi Zaim and Vountus Indra Mawan in quarter-final round of the event.
They put a commendable knock against higher ranked couple and registered a straight-set victory to pave their way to the semi-finals.
Kah Ming Chooi and Yao Han Ow, who also have been selected in 2014 special squad, completely outclassed the eight seeded couple of the event in all areas of game.
They moved one step closer to title by putting concluding margin of 21-18 and 22-20.
Their next challengers were local shuttlers Teik Chai Gan and Soon Hock Ong who put great resistance by pushing them all the way to three gruelling sets.
However, Kah Ming-Yao Han bounced back from a rough start and blew away their opponents in last two games. They emerged as victors when scoreboard flashed final results of 20-22 21-16 and 21-16.
The talented but inexperienced partners locked all the attentions by surging into their first final of an international event.
In the title match, they locked horns with national number one duo Kien Keat-Boon Heong who was also looking to restore confidence after their failures in recent past.
Kah Ming-Yao Han played with right attitude and fortitude but the World Number eight couple proved tough nut to crack.
Though this battle for crown was over in just two segments but the youngsters walked tall despite of losing both games.
They ended this tussle by entering decent totals of 15-21 and 19-21 and this final result certainly was a proof of their remarkable fighting skills which they displayed throughout Malaysia Open 2012.
The scratch pair rose to new heights in home event and grabbed the attention of badminton pundits who are now emphasising that youngsters like Kah Ming and Yao Han should be given more chances in international events as well.
