Former Karlsruher SC and Bayern Munich star goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Oliver-c28477 Kahn has insisted that reigning German champions’ Borussia Dortmund do not have enough depth in their squad to compete on three fronts as they are involved in the Bundesliga,
the German Cup and the UEFA Champions League.
The Black Yellows finished on top of Group D in Europe’s elite competition ahead of big teams such as Real Madrid, Manchester City and Ajax, but are struggling in the Bundesliga. They are currently placed third in the table and
trail league leaders’ Bayern Munich by 12 points.
The legendary player commended Jurgen Klopp’s side for their amazing run in the Champions League, but claimed that the stress of playing in three different formats is proving to be too much for them. He said that lack of depth
has seen them struggle to defend their league title.
The former shot-stopper stated that the BVB did well in the European competition, as they have put all their energy on the tournament. On the other hand, they did not focus as much on the German League. Therefore, they need a number
of quality additions to fight on both fronts.
"BVB played out an impressive Champions’ League group stage, which has to do with the fact that the team focused heavily on the competition," he was quoted as saying in an interview.
"In the Bundesliga, however, Borussia were missing the necessary concentration. The gap between their performances in the Bundesliga and the Champions League shows that quality in depth is needed in order to play at a top level in both competitions," the 1996
UEFA Cup winner added.
"Many fans feel the firing of the coach was an error, but I disagree as much as I value Stevens,” he mused.
