Kai-Chen Chang defeats Hilary Barte in the 1st round – Bank of the West Classic 2011
The 20-year-old, Kai-Chen Chang lay off the 23-year-old, Hilary Barte, in the first round of the Bank of the West Classic Tournament 2011 at the Taube Family Tennis Center Stanford University, California. The Taipei, Kai won the
match in one hour, 24 minutes and five seconds 7-5, 6-4
Kai won the toss, served first with confidence and smashed two aces however in the next moment her accuracy had faltered and she struck three double faults hitting the net where as Hilary Barte performed with excellent precession
and struck zero double faults. Kai had won a walloping eighty one percent on her first serve points along with forty one percent win in her total return points mean while the American (Barte) had an exceptional serve, she had below the par total return points
amounting to only thirty two percent.
The first set was a close contest between both the players. However, during the set both the players broke each other once in the first ten games to square off the score at 5-5. Kai broke Barte in the eleventh game to take a 6-5
lead and served out the set in the next game, grabbing it 7-5.
After almost winning in the first set, Barte pulled up her socks and serving first with extreme exactitude was able to hit ninety three percent of all her first serve targets, she was also able to grab sixty two percent of her
total service points but could’ve attained more if her accuracy wouldn’t have faltered in the second serve. Additionally, she also lost points because of a poor return serve and instead endorsed a break point to her opponent.
Kai on the contrary had aced but during the set she struck two line faults. She was able to capture seventy one percent of her first serve on the target along with an average return. In addition, she was also able to claim fifty
percent of the break points that she faced. Chang’s defence was as strong as an ox and she did not allow her opponent a chance to win a single break point advantage and won the set flawlessly.
Kai won the match because of consistency in both her serves and return serves during both the sets along with a strong defence she lead 2-0. She was dominant in both the sets and put her American opponent to shame.   
She will now be facing the Pole Agnieszka Radwanska in the second round of the Bank of the West Classic Tournament 2011.
