Kai-Chen Chang stuns Casey Dellacqua in the second round – HP Japan Open 2012 
World number 84, Casey Dellacqua, received a straight sets shocker at the hand of the Taiwanese contender, Kai-Chen Chang, in the second round of the HP Japan Women’s Open 2012. After a tough encounter between the two, Chang consolidated
a 7-6(4), 6-3 win on Wednesday at the hard courts of Osaka, Japan.
The right-hander Taiwanese contestant stepped on the hard courts with a strong resolve to defeat her rival and grabbed the initial two games to mark a 2-0 lead. The set faced a series of serve breaks as both players battle hard
to impose their lead. Chang face a rough journey to the end with her challenger squaring down the score line three times. Nevertheless, she did not lose hope and finished the set with a 7-6(4) score after a close tiebreaker.
Currently ranked 84th in the WTA Rankings, Dellacqua, had an average initial serve precision of 51 percent, converting 16 of 31 first and 12 of 30 second delivery points. From six serve breaks, she capitalized on only
four, whilst her challenger attained four out of 11. The Chinese junior double faulted four times with 54 percent first serve, with 11 of 19 first and four of 16 second delivery points.
The 21-year-old, Chang, preserved her serve the entire time, brushing away all serve breaks in her way. She broke Dellacqua’s serve in the third game and completely dissolved her confidence to secure the lead. The Taipei native
swiftly terminated the set preserving her poise and stamped a 6-3 win.
Both players were unable to fire even a single ace and double faulted twice in the seocnd set. However, the 27-year-old Aussie lagged behind as she was only able to attain 14 of 22 first and four of 12 second serve points.  In
comparison, her lower ranked opponent won 15 of 18 first and four of 10 second serve points. She was able to achieve her lead because she pocketed away the two serve breaks presented to her.
For the next round, Chang will battle against the winner of match between the eighth seeded British junior, Laura Robson and Yi-Miao Zhou.
