Kaia Kanepi and Andrea Petkovic ruled out of the final Wimbledon squad – Tennis News
World number 16, Kaia Kanepi, will miss out on the grass court Grand Slam Championship, after having an emphatic year so far. She has unfortunately injured her foot and will not take part in the third Grand Slam tournament of the
year. It is a major let off for the Estonian fans that have seen their superstar fly up into the Top-20’s after registering some mind-startling victories in 2012.
The Estonian superstar will be replaced by the likes of the Briton booming start, the 20-year-old Heather Watson. She will join in the likes of the British number one, Elena Baltacha and Anne Keothavong. However, she would like
to have her best friend onboard as well, Laura Robson, who will contest the qualifiers for the tournament.
Watson’s direct inclusion in the main round of Wimbledon has taken the tally of spared wildcards to three that are still to be awarded by the International Tennis Federation. The most prominent players to attain the wildcard include
the booming Briton starlet, Tara Moore, who recently stunned the world with her marvellous performance in the in Birmingham this week. The final decision is likely to be made on coming Friday and Moore expects it to be in her favour.
Agnes Szavay will also be out of action due to a back injury and replaced by Lesia Tsurenko whilst Bojana Jovanovski has jumped in the final squad of Wimbledon in place of the German tennis icon, Andrea Petkovic, who is still suffering
from the ankle injury she incurred last month. Petkovic missed the clay court Grand Slam, the Roland Garros French Open, as well and she is not ready to make a comeback before Wimbledon.
In the men’s category, Vasek Pospisil will replace Pablo Cuevas. World number 103, Pospisil, was recently announced to partner the doubles world number one, Daniel Nestor, and represent Canada in the London Olympics campaign next
month.
Wimbledon tournament commences from the 25th of June. Kanepi and Petkovic will definitely be missed from the overall line-up of the tournament. Former world number two, Vera Zvonareva, of Russia has missed the bulk of
the season due to niggling injuries and most probably not going to participate in Wimbledon. Shocking news for the Estonian tennis fanatics has been a blessing in disguise for the Britons who are waiting to witness their booming tennis icon, Watson, register
some upsets and bring back the glory days.
