Kaio Marcio de Almeida conquers Men’s 100m butterfly semi-final – Jose Finkel Trophy
Kaio Marcio de Almeida of FFC/RJ conquered top position in the semi-final of Men’s 100m butterfly on second day of the 2012 Jose Finkel Trophy in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Tuesday, August 21.
Almeida smothered hopes of his opponents in the 100m discipline as he captured the fastest qualification spot of the event. With his unrelenting efforts, he faced no trouble from his opponents throughout the discipline and made his way to the wall as fastest
swimmer.
He remained full body length away from his strongest opponent and tapped the finishing wall with a timing of 50.50 seconds for first position.
His incredible pace remained 0.95 seconds faster from Marcos Antonio Macedo of FIAT/MINAS, who qualified into the playoff as second best swimmer with a timing of 51.45 seconds.
Macedo was chased by Gabriel Vasconcellos Mangabeira of ECP/SABESP, who stayed nearly 0.80 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and occupied third fastest qualifying position with an effort of 52.39 seconds.
Fourth finest spot of the race was obtained by Leonardo de Deus of CRF/RJ, who suffered a deficit of only 0.09 seconds from his former finisher and posted a time of 52.48 seconds.
Deus was traced by Henrique de Souza Martins of ECP/SABESP, who stayed 0.07 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and earned fifth fastest spot of the event with a timing of 52.55 seconds.
He was trailed by Frederico Veloso Castro of CRF/RJ, who remained just an inch slower from his foregoing finisher and secured sixth best qualification spot with a timing of 52.57 seconds.
Seventh position of the swim was obtained by Arthur Mendes Filho of CORINTHIANS/ABDEM, who remained only 0.03 seconds behind and submitted a time of 52.60 seconds.
Last qualification spot of the event was secured by Fernando Souza da Silva of ECP/SABESP, who was only one stroke slower from his preceding swimmer and touched the finishing wall with a timing of 52.87 seconds for eighth position.
Almeida was contented with his gruelling efforts in the discipline and articulated that he would struggle hard to sustain his spot in the playoff and earn gold medal.
