Kairat Almaty knock-out the 2010 UEFA Futsal Champions: Futsal News
Kairat Almaty did not end-up amongst the bottom line teams of the UEFA Futsal Cup. However, they managed to make a place on the podium by defeating SL Benfica, the champions of the UEFA Futsal Cup in 2010. The match for the third place was competed at the
Baluan Sholak Sport Palace Almaty, Kazakhstan. The winner of the match was decided on shoot-out goals.
The match between the champions and the host nation team remained levelled and went into a draw of three-three goals. The Kairat Almaty took the early lead and scored the first goal in the first ten minutes of the match. The goal was scored by Leo Santana
in the eleventh minute of the match. Following him Sidnei Silva scored the second goal of the match. Bébé from the SL Benfica took the lead and scored the first goal from the Portugese side.
The score were equalised by the Portugal team and the second goal was scored by Gonçalo from the Benfica team. The Benfica team was in full form to snatch away the bronze medal from the host nation’s team and add to their joy. The captain of the Kairat Almaty,
Kelson got a red card right after the half-time and was sent out of the match.
The Benfica took the lead and César Paulo scored the third goal in the start of the second half of the match. But one of their players got a red card in the very beginning of the second-half of the match. Davi was sent out of the match and the Benfica team
remained short of a player for two-minutes.
Felipe equalised the matters in the 36th minute of the match and scored a goal against Benfica. After this none of the teams were able to score a goal till the end of the match. There was an extra-time given to both of the teams of 10-minutes, but the match
progressed towards a penalty shoot-out.
The coach of the Kairat Almaty, Carlos Barbosa came forward and gave some quick instructions to the team for the penalty shoot-out. Whatever he said to the team really worked out as the team managed to score two goals in the shoot-out against Benfica.
Pedro Costa from Benfica tried hard to equalise the matters, but his efforts went un-rewarded as Santana blocked his progress in a magnificent way. Santana was also the man from the host nation team, who scored two goals earlier in the semi-finals and revived
the team.
The victory saved the host nation from a total failure on their home-ground.
