Kaiserslautern players urged to do better
FC Kaiserslautern coach Marco Kurz is not satisfied with his players’ performance in the German Bundesliga this season. The 41-year-old urged his players to work harder as the newly-promoted club is still
languishing in the bottom half of the table.
"We have got to work really hard now because this is not a simple situation," he said in an interview with FIFA.com.
"We will pull together and get out of here together. We expected to end up in a situation like this sooner or later so we are not unprepared for it.”
The Stuttgart-born Kurz also expressed his disappointment after Kaiserslautern were crushed by Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 over the weekend.
"We had the best chances in the first half. If we had scored the first goal, then the game would have gone in a different direction," he said.
The loss left Kaiserslautern in 14th spot with seven points from eight matches. The Red Devils have so far won only twice, drew once and lost five matches this season. They are just ranked ahead of Borussia
Monchengladbach and relegation-threatened Schalke, Cologne and Stuttgart.
Kaiserslautern made their return to the Bundesliga this season after winning the 2.Bundesliga title. It was the club's first stint in the top-tier league since 2006.
Founded in 1900 after the merger of Germania 1896 and FG Kaiserslautern, Kaiserslautern won the German Championships in 1951 and 1953. They also won the Bundesliga crown in 1991 and 1998. The team, under
famous coach Otto Rehhagel, achieved a historic feat in 1998 when they won the Bundesliga title as a newly-promoted club.
Kaiserslautern won the German Cup twice, in 1990 and 1996. The club reached the quarter-finals of the 1999 UEFA Champions League.
Kaiserslautern also reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup (now known as the Europa League) in 1982 and 2001.
