Kaitlin Leung seizes Girls 200yard IM title – High School State Championships, San Francisco
Kaitlin Leung of LOW seized gold medal of the Girls 200yard Individual Medley (IM) at the 2012 High School State Championships in San Francisco, California on Tuesday, May 1.
Leung faced strong competition from her closest competitor, Verna Huang of LINC in the first half of the race, but with her epic performance, she managed to outperform her over the finishing end for gold medal.
With her commendable performance, she excelled in the second half and proved her eligibility for gold medal of the event by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 13.61 seconds.
Her gruelling effort remained nearly two seconds faster from Huang, who tapped the finishing wall for silver medal by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 15.04 seconds.
The second position holder was chased by Leung’s teammate, Amanda Chun, who suffered a deficit of almost five seconds and ended her swim in third best place by posting a time of 2 minutes and 20.44 seconds.
Chun was followed by her team-member, Vivian Nguyen, who stayed 6.05 seconds behind and settled on the finishing end for fourth position by producing a time of 2 minutes and 26.49 seconds.
Fifth position of the discipline was secured by Alicia Tang, who remained almost nine seconds away and ended her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 33.25 seconds.
In the meantime, Jared Vu of LINC snared gold medal of the equivalent event in Boys category as he touched the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 57.21 seconds.
His scintillating effort was trailed by Matthew Kim of LOW, who remained considerably slower and emerged on the finishing end for second position with the timing of 2 minutes and 08.72 seconds.
Kim was trailed by his team-member, Brendan McKay, who posted a time of 2 minutes and 09.29 seconds for bronze medal of the discipline.
Similarly, Jerry Phan of WASH earned fourth position of the event as he clocked a time of 2 minutes and 11.61 seconds.
Furthermore, the position holders were awarded medals for their commendable efforts in the 200m discipline at prize ceremony of the championship.
