Kaitlyn Jones wins Women’s 200m IM prelims – Junior Pan Pacific Championships
Kaitlyn Jones of USA won the fastest qualification spot of Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on fourth day of the 2012 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Honolulu, Hawaii on Sunday, August 26.
Jones faced strong battle from Erika Seltenreich-Hodgson of Canada throughout the event but with her promising efforts, she transpired into the final as top fastest swimmer.
The American swimmer remained just a touch ahead of her closest challenger and hit the wall for first position with the timing of 2 minutes and 14.75 seconds.
Her gruelling effort remained 0.07 seconds ahead of Seltenreich-Hodgson, who hit the wall for second best qualification spot with the timing of 2 minutes and 14.85 seconds.
The Canadian swimmer was trailed by Rika Omoto of Japan, who remained just a half body length behind and tapped the wall for third finest position with an effort of 2 minutes and 15.31 seconds.
Fourth fastest qualifying position of the event was secured by Chihiro Igarashi of Japan, who stayed 0.68 seconds slower and emerged on the finishing blockade with an effort of 2 minutes and 15.89 seconds.
The Japanese swimmer was chased by Annie Zhu of USA, who remained only 0.18 seconds slower and transpired on the finishing end as fifth fastest swimmer by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 16.07 seconds.
Zhu was traced by Sydney Pickrem of Canada, who suffered a loss of only 0.05 seconds over her foregoing finisher and obtained sixth best spot of the event with a timing of 2 minutes and 16.12 seconds.
Pickrem was chased by Kotuku Ngawati of Australia, who remained 0.62 seconds behind and earned her way into the final round as seventh fastest swimmer by touching the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 16.74 seconds.
Ngawati was trailed by Keryn McMaster of Australia, who remained 0.38 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing blockade as eighth best swimmer by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 17.12 seconds.
Jones was very happy with her fastest qualification effort in the playoff and said that she would struggle hard to secure gold spot in the playoff.
