The former Internazionale sporting director claims that Kaka could have been an Inter Milan player, had talks between the two parties progressed further.

it would seem to be a big mistake, letting a player of Kaka’s quality slip between their noses to their bitter rivals.

Nerazzurri president, Massimo Moratti, however the talks fell midway and no conclusion came out of their trip.
In an interview to the Premium Calcio, the former director stated:
"We were really close to signing him before our rivals Milan eventually got him. I travelled to Brazil with the president to discuss a deal with Sao http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paulo-c29431. Unfortunately,
talks didn't go as we were hoping for.”
Moratti would have rued the fact that Inter Milan failed to snap up the youngster when he was a relatively unknown quantity. The Diavolo were not as hesitant as the Beneamata
and they snapped him up under the patronage of Silvio Berlusconi.
The former Beneamata sporting director felt that there was not any concrete reason for the deal to not have materialised and he stated:
"There was not a particular reason why the move fell through. It was simply that talks weren't re-opened after we initially failed to agree terms."
Inter’s loss was Milan’s gain as they snapped up the youngster for a reported fee of 8.5 million Euros in 2003. The transfer fee was deemed as “peanuts” by the Berlusconi
who saw Kaka develop into one of the best players in the world at AC Milan. He broke into the first team of the Rossoneri within a month of his arrival.
He had a highly successful time at the San Siro and developed into one of the most feared midfielders around the world during his time at Milan.

Kaka transferred to Real Madrid for a reported fee of 56 million pounds in the summer of 2009.
