Top players from Day-5 of FIBA U-19 World Championship for Women
- Pt 1
On July 25, the 5th day of the FIBA U-19 World Championship for Women being held in Chile, a total of 7 games were played. USA and France fought intensely for their victories over China and Spain respectively. Japan
bulldozed Italy, while Australia annihilated Chinese Taipei. Slovenians were awarded a walkover due to Nigeria’s absence from the tournament. The remaining three winners; namely Argentina, Brazil and Canada won their games with comfortable margins.
USA vs China
Kaleena Lewis
Kaleena Lewis directed the flow for USA by scoring 19 points altogether, accompanied by a strong tally of 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. She was highly successful with her three pointers, as she managed 15 points from downtown
at a 62.5 % conversion rate.
Bria Hartley
USA’s shooting guard Bria Hartley also has a solid game. She banked 18 points along with 5 rebounds and 5 assists.
Stefanie Dolson
Stefanie Dolson, the centre for team USA, also jumped in with 12 points and 8 rebounds. She was one of the three USA players to reach double figures.
Jiayi Zuo
The Chinese point guard fashioned a brave attempt as she piloted her team with 23 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. She was clearly China’s most valuable player.
Jiamei Liang
Zuo’s teammate, Jiamei Liang, earned 15 points and 7 rebounds and in doing so, provided a good support to Zuo.
Spain vs France
Adja Konteh
The French small forward, Adja Konteh, controlled the game offensively. She scored 15 points in a total of 36 minutes.
Clarince Djaldi-Tabdi
Clarince also bucketed 10 points for the French team and was prolific on the glass with a total of 10 boards. She also managed to acquire 2 steals which proved crucial in the closely fought contest.
Mariona Ortiz
Small forward, Mariona Ortiz, was the highlight of the Spanish team with 21 points and 7 rebounds. 20 of her points were 2-point field goals at 77% accuracy. However, she was alone in her efforts and did not receive ample support,
which eventually led to Spain’s defeat.
Chinese Taipei vs Australia
Tayla Roberts
In an impressive display, the Australian centre banked 18 points, grabbed 8 defensive rebounds and provided 3 assists; all in just over 19 minutes.
Alexandra Bunton
Alexandra Bunton spent just 15 minutes on the court and was able to score 11 points and 8 rebounds
Carley Mijovic
Carley Mijovic, the reserve Aussie centre, also made her mark by netting 10 points and 4 rebounds in just over 13 minutes.
Yu-Chun Wei
The Chinese Taipei shooting guard was pretty much the only notable player for her team. She scored 15 points and grabbed 2 rebounds in the game.
