Kaliesha West ready to defend her WBO bantamweight title against Claudia Andrea Lopez – Boxing news
Kaliesha West, the current WBO female bantamweight champion, will defend her title for the third time against a slightly more experienced Claudia Andrea Lopez, the former WBA female featherweight champion, in a 10-round bout which will take place on April
14, 2012.
The ring for the bout will be stretched at Ernesto Ruffo Appel Municipal Gymnasium situated in Rosarito, Baja California, Mexico and the above duo will co-headline the pay-per-view. The Saturday night show will be promoted by Erik Morales of Box Latino and
will witness Pedro Guevara defend his NABF light flyweight gold against Carlos Perez hence constituting the headliner of the night.
Kaliesha, 24, has been in a total 18 bouts and emerged victorious in 14. She has nailed just four opponents by knockout.
Lopez, 32, on the other hand, has been in a total 23 bouts and nailed 18 of her opponents emphatically. She has also collected just four wins by knockout and is the former number one contender for WBA female featherweight title.
The duo possesses slight upper hand on each other in various significant aspects. West has a good win ratio and has recently fought pugilists with more experience as compared to Lopez.
The Argentinean Lopez, well known as ‘La Chica 10’, is a southpaw and though has recently brawled with pugilist of low-calibre yet possesses more experience when compared to West.
West currently resides at the fourth position in world rankings as compared to Lopez’s 10th and has the age as well as the height advantage at her disposal. Claudia will rely heavily on her instincts and this will be the first time that she will compete
for the world title.
The duo recently met at the pre-bout press conference which was attended by almost all the pugilists participating in the pay-per-view. West while sharing her resolve to defend the title, commented, “I have the utmost respect for Team Lopez and I thank them
for taking the fight. I am here to defend my title and keep my title and that is what you are going to see on Saturday night.”
At the same time, Lopez also put forth her feelings while praising Kaliesha and said, “I have fought some great fighters women and on Saturday night it will be no different. I know that Kaliesha is a great fighter but we came to win and we will give it our
all.”
The media gathering was attended by Erik Morales owner Box Latino, the representatives of Televisa who will broadcast the ‘War at the Gulf’ pay-per-view and by Corona beer, the co-promoter of the event.
