Kalk Bay unlikely to make the cut for William Hill Lincoln Handicap- Horse Racing Updates
Kalk Bay, the 12-1 joint favourite in the William Hill Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster on 2 April, is most likely not going to be able to make it in to the list of entries for the race, according to his trainer William Haggas. The horse will need to defeat
a minimum number of twenty six other riders in order to be shortlisted for the first part of the Spring Double. Last year’s winner, Penitent, who also happens to be Kalk Bay’s stablemate, heads the weights for this race.
Kalk Bay, who is only four years of age and races calmly, appeared to be moving up in the rankings fast after achieving three victories last year. The most recent of these wins was the defeat of Sahara Kingdom by barely a neck, over the one mile race run
at Southwell in October.
The horses trainer, Haggas, who has alo entered his other horse, Shamali, is hoping to get himself a fourth victory in the Lincoln Handicap. His previous horses, High Low, won the race in 1992, Very Wise was a 2007 Lincoln winner and last year Penitent took
home the win.
The trainer of Penitent and Kalk Bay revealed on Monday that he sees Kalk Bay as his main hope in winning the Lincoln Handicap. However, his belief in the horse has been put under doubt ever since he looked at the weights for the race. Haggas has told reporters
that he is truly disappointed because it was Kalk Bay who he really wanted to see running and perhaps winning the race.
Haggas adds that if Kalk Bay does not make it in the entries, then they will most likely skip the consolation race and wait and search for another good race to take part in. He believes that Penitent might make the race but may not run it in favour of a
Listed race, whereas Shamali is scheduled to have a prior run in the Lincoln Trial at Wolverhampton on 19 March.
On the other hand, at 12-1 for Lincoln, Gunner Lindley needs 22 horses to come out on top. Trainer, Barry Hills, had posted on his website on Monday that Gunner may have a shot at Lincoln after improving over the previous months.
