Kalle Sauerland believes the Klitschkos still need David Haye – Boxing news
David Haye’s co-promoter Kalle Sauerland still believes the Klitschko brothers need Haye in the ring as he reckons he is the only fighter who can get them a big payday.
The 30-year-old brash Londoner Haye lost his World Boxing Association’s world heavyweight championship belt to Dr. Steelhammer, Wladimir Klitschko, in a unification bout for the heavyweight titles on July 2, 2011 at Hamburg’s Football Stadium in Germany
in front of a crowd of over 60,000 people.
The Hayemaker, Haye, said a lot before the fight but failed to deliver as he lost via unanimous points’ decision on the fight night.
Haye desperately wanted a rematch as he wanted to avenge his fight against the IBO, IBF, WBA, WBO and Ring Magazine’s world heavyweight champion, Wladimir Klitschko but his offer was turned down as Wladimir said he now has nothing to bring on the table for
him.
However, Sauerland believes his fighter is still the best prospect for the Klitschko brothers as he thinks Haye has given them their biggest payday so far.
Sauerland told the media Haye might have lost his image a bit but he is the best option for the Klitschkos and they will realise it soon.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “Realistically the Klitschkos still need David, no matter what they say, although maybe not as much as before Wladimir fought David.”
“But when the figures are all finalised from David’s fight with Wladimir and all the TV money is in, the Klitschkos will realise they will have to fight three times to make as much money as from one fight with Haye. Both Vitali and Wladimir will be confident
because of Wladimir’s last fight with David,” he said.
Haye after a refusal from Wladimir wanted to take on his elder brother Vitali Klitschko, who currently holds the WBC world heavyweight title and Sauerland claims Haye’s fight with Vitali can happen if he volunteers his title defence.
Sauerland remarked, “David is still going to be rated highly in the rankings so Vitali could fight him in a voluntary defence.”
