Jacques Kallis racked up his 39th Test century and in doing so, he drew level with the Australian great Ricky Ponting, as the second highest century maker in Test cricket. As a result of Kallis’ valiant effort, South Africa piled up a massive
first innings score of 335 runs for the loss of nine wickets on day two of the third Test match in Cape Town.

The batting has been a tough job and conditions have favoured the quick bowlers. However, in indifferent circumstances, Kallis has been able to produce his best and he has played shots all-around the park, smashing 15 crisp boundaries.
Ashwell Prince provided his senior partner with valuable support and mustered a 98-run partnership with Kallis to steer the hosts to comfortable position. The left-hand batsman scored 47.
In the middle overs, the wickets for the home team fell in quick succession, as they lost five wickets in space of just 48 runs. However, Tsotsobe (3) and Kallis put a resilient 25-run partnership for the last wicket in order to frustrate the opposition.
The pair will start the proceedings for South Africa in the post-lunch session.
