Chelsea’s striker, Saloman Kalou has gone on to admit that he felt he wasn’t part of Chelsea’s future, back when Andre Villa-Boas was manager of the team.
According to the Ivory Coast international, Villas-Boas had told him that he wouldn’t play for the Blues, until he went on to commit his long term future to the club and put pen to paper on a long term contract.
Considering how Kalou felt that he wasn’t wanted at the club, he felt rather weird when the manager asked him to do so and this in turn went on to have an impact on his mentality and hence his performances.
Kalou, when talking about how thing were with Villas- Boas is quoted to have said: "Maybe Andre was building a new team and he was maybe thinking I wasn't part of the future of the club"
"I had been told that because I didn't sign the contract I was not allowed to play.”
"It has been a hard season not playing. As a player, you want to get involved more, you want to help the team to win and also for yourself.”
He then went on to insist that he couldn’t prove his worth, until he was allowed to play regular football with the team.
The forward feels that he is criticized far too often, but people need to realize that he hardly ever gets to represent the club and this just ends up causing him a lot of frustration.
"You want to score more goals and show you're a better player than people think. If you don't get on the pitch, it is very hard to show that every weekend.”
"I feel like maybe sometimes the club never gave me the opportunity to show what I can do. That is a really big frustration.”
Kalou recently went on to score Chelsea’s match winner against Benfica and as a result of that goal, he is bound to make a few more appearances for the team in the near future.
Nonetheless, it is now a wait to see just how far the player can take his career at the club.
