Was Karl Malone a good defender in his day?

  1. He was a good defender, since he had size and rebounded tons of missed shots.  He wasn't much of a shot blocker though.


  2. he wasnt a shot blocker or anything, and i also wouldnt say he was a really good defender.  he did have pretty quick hands though and his strength did help in the post.

  3. no. he was a trickster. he had a the grab/pull moves that the rebounders used to do back in his day. you don't have to block shots to be a good defender, but karl was largely a flopper and an actor. he was not a terrible defender, he'd swipe (more like strike forearms and wrists) the ball if you brought it low and the refs would let him get away with that move all the time. karl was a flopper... but because he was a star he'd usually get the call his way.

Karl was about as immovable in the low blocks as the Washington Monument, and was virtually impossible to drive backwards, his defense was better than average, but if it was my call as to who to upgrade his D, I'd choose his college coach (maybe you've heard of Mike Krzyzewski, the Olympic team seems to have gotten it)...maybe he should have stuck around for his final year of eligibility...
