Kamil Capkovic overpowers Colin Ebelthite in round one - Burnie 2012 CH
Slovakian tennis ace, Kamil Capkovic, recovered with great mastery in the contest against the 27-years-old, Colin Ebelthite, in a gruelling two hours and 49-minute battle to conquer him in three sets. The contest was played on
Monday during the Burnie Challenger tournament and the Slovak bounced back from being a set down to win the match with cumulative scores of 5-7, 6-2, 7-5.
It was a good battle between the two superstars but the experience of playing at elite platforms helped Capkovic to absorb the pressure and register a close win. Both players were enjoying good run of form in the recent past but
haven’t faced each other in their entire career before and it was obvious that they will be cautious at the start.
No break points for either of the contenders were seen in the first ten games of the match. It seemed like the opener would enter into a tie-breaker round but the inferior ranked Aussie flabbergasted everyone with three back-to-back
thumping winners down the line to register the crucial breakthrough of the set. He had to face a bit of resistance during the next game to hold on to his serve but couldn’t enforce a tie-breaker. The Aussie bagged the first set and exerted pressure on the
match favourite, Capkovic.
Both players traded breakpoints in the first two games of the second set before the Slovak successfully held his serve game to push the scores to 2-1 in his favour. He hammered his opponent in the next game and forced him to play
from the baseline. The pressure erupted couple of unforced errors from the Aussie that were good enough to register a comprehensive breakthrough for the Slovak. Scores kept ticking as both players continued to capitalize on their respective serve games. Finally
Capkovic found another loop hole in the game play of his opponent; struck a couple of delicately placed drop shots to break serve and level the set scores at one set apiece.
Excellent passion from both ends in the final set pushed the scores to 4-4 without any serve breaks. Both players exchanged breakpoints in the next two games before the Slovak held his serve to push the scores to 6-5 in his favour.
Ebelthite couldn’t handle pressure and lost the serve game that also diminished his chances of moving ahead in the tournament. It was a good fight with the deserving player winning the contest.
