Kamil Capkovic shocks Tsung-Hua Yang to reach the quarters – 2012 Green World ATP challenger
Slovakian contender, Kamil Capkovic, stunned the fourth seed, Tsung-Hua Yang, with a bagel at the 2012 Green World ATP Challenger 2012 on Wednesday. He penned down a 6-2, 6-0 victory over the Taiwanese to book a spot in the final eight at this hard court
tournament taking place in Pingguo, China.
The world number 224 dominated throughout the match to outclass Yang in straight sets at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Challenger Tour event. Facing each other for the first time, the Slovak easily bagged the match without losing his serve
and advanced into the quarter-finals.
Capkovic drew the first blood in the third game and swiftly took a 3-1 lead. He then held remaining serves and capitalised on another break chance in the seventh game to seal the opener with a 6-2 win.
The highly enthusiastic Slovak went out of control in the following set and got the coveted break in the opening game to take the initial lead. Capkovic then maintained his intensity and continued swiping in the following games until he pulled out a bagel.
The Slovak again produced a lower first serve share but spectacularly clinched on all nine of them.
Summing up the lower ranked performance in this 64-minute duel, the Slovak spilled fewer errors and coughed only one double fault. He also manipulated a better share on his returns and finished the match with 53 points.
Next challenge for Capkovic is the fifth seed, Amir Weintraub, who fended off early resistance to overpower Germany’s Sebastian Rieschick in straight sets.
The fifth seeded Israeli coughed more double faults and manipulated a poor first serve share of 63 per cent in contrast with Rieschick’s 76 per cent. However, he impressively availed 34 out of 50 points on it and cashed in half of the eight break chances
to clinch the match with a 7-6(4), 6-4 score line in one hour and 40 minutes. Weintraub exchanged a break of serve and prevailed in the tie-breaker to pocket the opener. He then lifted his game in the following set and despite losing his serve twice, the Israeli
cashed in three out of five break chances to earn the spotlight.
