Kamil Capkovic stuns Amir Weintraub to reach the semis – 2012 Green World ATP Challenger
Slovakian contender, Kamil Capkovic, jolted down the fifth seed, Israel’s Amir Weintraub, with a bagel at the Green World ATP Challenger, a hard court tournament which is part of ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Challenger Tour 2012. He formulated
a 7-6(4), 6-0 victory against the world number 203 to secure a place in the final four on Thursday.
Capkovic barely sweated in the second set to pluck the match in straight sets in their first meeting. He registered impressive states to advance into the semi-finals at this event.
The 25-year-old Slovak high-spiritedly entered the Chinese hard courts and held his opening serve in the second game to level the scores at 1-1. Capkovic then maintained consistency in his game until he drew the first blood in the seventh game, subsequently
taking the lead for the first time in the match. Despite squandering his lead in the tenth game, he outclassed the Israeli in the tie-breaker and clinched the opener with a 7-6(4) score line.
The lower ranked unleashed his true colours in the second set and winded up all six games successively. Capkovic dusted away the only breakpoint he faced and cashed in all three break opportunities to manifest this exceptional 6-0 success.
Summing up the unseeded Slovak’s performance, Capkovic produced a slightly higher first serve share of 76 per cent in contrast with the Israeli’s 75 per cent and amazingly marked 32 out of 42 points on it. He won 21 out of 48 points on return and ended the
match after clinching 70 points.
Next up for Capkovic is the conqueror of the match between top seeded Go Soeda and seventh seeded Benjamin Mitchell.
Earlier, sixth seed Jimmy Wang earned the glory after triumphing over South Korea’s Suk-Young Jeong in straight sets in two hours and 12 minutes. The Taiwanese saved only half of the eight breakpoints he faced but capitalised on six out of 11 break opportunities
to clobber a 7-5, 7-5 score line.
He will next face the second seed, Malek Jaziri, who trashed the local qualifier, Yu Cheng Li, in straight sets to set-up this duel.
