Kamila Augustyn, Agnieszka Wojtkowska prove their mettle in Women’s Doubles event of Polish Open
Women’s Doubles experts Kamila Augustyn-Agnieszka Wojtkowska relished full benefits of the home ground to claim the crown in the Polish Open on Sunday, September 2, 2012.
They outshined Sarah Thomas-Carissa Turner by putting up a convincing margin of 21-15 and 21-14 in the final encounter of this International Series.
This 29-minute tussle mesmerised the local crowd which assembled to support the native shuttlers.
The twosome of Kamila and Agnieszka did not disappoint their supporters and locked the honour with a laudable effort.
They started the beating from the very first stroke and kept the opposing team grounded until the last shot was played.
In the first set, both female shuttlers laid the foundation of their supremacy straight away in the beginning as they gathered valuable points at a steady pace.
They mounted pressure by registering a 5-2 total and then doubled the impact with a couple of nonstop rallies just before the interval.
At mid-game break, Kamila and Agnieszka were enjoying the upper hand with an 11-6 margin and this initial advantage helped them to corner their rivals in the second half of the set as well.
Sarah and Carissa, who were representing Wales, made every effort to come out of this deficit in later part of the game but they could not hit the mark.
First sign of trouble came when Kamila-Agnieszka raised the lead to an indomitable position of 15-10 and pushed them on the back-foot.
The Polish shuttlers did not lose focus at any stage of the game and served notice of their supremacy with a 21-15 score on the board.
Next game was just a replay of the previous one as the top seeded team Sarah-Carissa could not revive its lost form and allowed their competitors to seal a straight-set victory.
In the first half of the set, Kamila-Agnieszka started making progress cautiously but they kick-started their campaign with some successive points after 4-2.
They kept on moving forward at a steady pace and left their challengers far behind with a significant figure of 11-5.
After the one-minute interval, the Wales campaigners put up a decent effort and narrowed the gap but it was not enough to avoid a woeful defeat.
Kamila and Agnieszka placed a winning result of 21-14 and secured the top spot on the victory stand of the Polish Open.
