Kamila Augustyn clutches Women’s Singles title in 2012 White Nights International Challenge
Poland’s Kamila Augustyn emerged as Champion in the Women’s Singles event of White Nights badminton tournament after stamping Chloe Magee in title match on July 8, 2012.
This epic 55-minute tussle was staged in Sport Hall Court of Gatchina city and both female shuttlers entertained the local audience with their marvellous craft.
They battled hard before ending this three-set encounter with final result of 19-21, 21-14 and 21-14.
The victorious shuttler displayed commendable fighting spirit and locked the honour by ruling in final two segments of the show.
On the other hand, the Irish shuttler could not capitalise on the 1-0 lead and surrendered tamely in the crucial stage of the match.
World Number 54 shuttler Chloe Magee played with great precision in opening game and bagged a vital match point.
She started the marathon with an immediate advantage in 5-3 total but could not maintain the upper hand as the opposing shuttler came from behind and cornered her.
Though, she remained under her opponent’s influence in most part of the first half but still managed to tip the scale in her favour.
Chloe gathered speed and left her rival far behind by pocketing six points in a row. She built pressure by making swift progress from 14 to 17 and then magnified the impact with 21-19 score on the board.
However, the following game totally changed the scenario as the losing shuttler of previous game turned the tables in second set of the match.
Kamila Augustyn, who was ranked four in this event, showed transformed character this time and established a comfortable lead with 11-7 margin before the interval.
After the one-minute break, she continued with this rhythm and raised her total to 16-10.
This six-point advantage proved a final blow to her challenger who knelt down after reading decisive figure of 14-21.
The Polish player lost her grip in the beginning of decider but bounced back in the contest just before half time.
Meanwhile, Chloe Magee enjoyed an authoritative position until 10-8 but her supremacy ended when Kamila prevailed in three consecutive rallies.
She finished the first half with 11-10 and then earned top spot on victory stand with 21-14 score on the board.
