Wicketkeeper, Kamran Akmal and middle order batsman, Mohammad Yousuf have finally cemented their place in Pakistan’s World Cup squad. This was confirmed when the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the names of the players included in the 30-member preliminary
squad.
Akmal had been facing tough times in the recent months when he was discarded for the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 and then for the tour of New Zealand.
Apparently, the wicketkeeper was under ICC’s watchful eye because the world’s cricket body had suspicions on the player’s involvement in match-fixing. After taking ICC’s suspicions into consideration the PCB formulated an integrity committee to resolve the
matter of the clearance of the players including Shoaib Malik, Akmal and Danish Kaneria.
Last week, the integrity committee held a meeting with the trio in which the players were told to reveal the details of their properties and bank accounts. According to sources, Akmal disclosed all his financial assets to the committee in a bid to clear
his name.
However, the committee failed to reach to an agreement and chose to delay the details of their decision. This delay by the integrity committee caused the selection committee to postpone the announcement of the preliminary squad because of the unclear situation
of the three players.
Today, however, after long consultations the integrity committee cleared Akmal for selection, while Shoaib Malik and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danish-Kaneria-c1314 failed to get clearance.
Akmal, after getting a nod from the integrity committee, was immediately placed in the preliminary squad and now his chances of making the final team for the World Cup look bright because there isn’t going to be another player experienced enough behind the
wickets for Pakistan.
After his name was announced he said, “I’m a true country man. This is what I’ve been trying to prove and I knew I’ll return because I was determined.”
The veteran middle order batsman, Mohammad Yousuf, has also made an inclusion in the squad for the World Cup after he was left out of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482, held a detailed meeting with
the chairman of PCB in which it is speculated that he insisted on the inclusion of Yousuf in the World Cup. Afridi believes that Yousuf’s experience would be vital for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 against the toughest teams of the world.
The chief selector, Moshin http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319, was pleased with the selection of the players and claimed that the 30 best available players had been selected. “We’re satisfied with the squad and confident that we’ve selected the best squad from among the players available.
The selection committee met on multiple occasions before finalising the preliminary squad.”
