http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kamran-Akmal-c70122 feels a sense of emptiness without Test cricket – Cricket News Update
Kamran Akmal, the Pakistani wicketkeeper/batsman, has revealed that he feels a sense of emptiness without playing Test cricket and hopes that the selectors will soon give him another chance to showcase his potential in the longer format of the game.
After the controversial tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in 2010, the cricketer from Lahore was dropped from the national team due to a lackluster performance with the bat as well as behind the stumps. Since then, the 31-year-old cricketer has been in and out of the limited-overs
squad but he has not played a single Test match.
Kamran came through the ranks of junior cricket in the country and having done well at the national level, the stylish batsman made his international debut in 2002 during the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045. However, he made a mark at the highest stage of the sport in
2005, having scored a magnificent century against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.
He never looked back after that and went on to play a number of match-winning knocks for the country. His wicketkeeping, however, has been found wandering at times, which is primarily the reason why he is no longer a permanent member of the national team
in all formats.
While speaking exclusively to ESPNcricinfo, Akmal expressed his desire to play Test cricket once again as he believes that the 5-day format is the pinnacle of the game.
He said, “I am missing it because it's the format that gives you ample time to express yourself and your abilities. I am enjoying playing limited-overs series but there is always a sense of emptiness without playing Test cricket. I have delivered in the
past in the format and I'm eager to do it again, but it's a decision the selectors have to make. I was actually dropped and I know the place is still unsettled.”
Akmal, who is considered to be a fine striker of the cricket ball, feels that he has not been able to maintain his performance with the bat over the last couple of years because of not having a settled number in the batting order.
“I have dropped my average after 2011 and it's mainly because of the fluctuations in the batting order,” Kamran mentioned.
