Kamran Akmal has an edge over other keepers because of his batting, says Iqbal Qasim – Cricket News Update
Disappointed with the performance of some young wicketkeepers in international cricket, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Iqbal-Qasim-c76980, the chief selector of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has expressed that Kamran Akmal has a massive advantage over the young glove-men
because of his batting skills.
Kamran remained an integral part of the Green Shirts in all formats of the game in the latter half of the 2000s. The cricketer from Lahore played a number of match-winning innings for the country and is considered to be a genuine match-winner
with the bat.
However, the talented player had a miserable time behind the stumps during the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Cricket World Cup 2011 but performed poorly,
dropping numerous catches at important junctures of play.
After the mega event, the selectors opted for new wicketkeepers like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shakeel-Ansar-c89546; however, all of them failed to cement their places in the limited-over line-up, failing to perform with
the bat.
Kamran returned to the national team during the limited-over series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 (UAE) earlier this year. While speaking to Pakpassion, the chief selector expressed that Kamran made a comeback at the international
level as the team needed a wicketkeeper who could contribute with the bat.
“It's a tough situation as some of the wicketkeepers we have tried have not delivered with the bat. The advantage that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kamran-Akmal-c70122 has over the other wicketkeepers under consideration is his batting. He is a batsman who can turn a
match in the space of a few overs,” said the former left-arm spinner.
Kamran has not performed exceptionally in the President’s Trophy 2012-13 but the chief selector hopes that the senior cricketer will find form in the on-going Faysal Bank T20 Tournament 2012-13.
“In the modern game all captains and coaches want consistent scores from their wicketkeepers and our team is no different,” he added. “Kamran's not had a great season in the President's Trophy and we'll be watching him closely regarding
his form in the Faysal Bank T20. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 needs an in form Kamran Akmal.”
