A source close to the National Selection Committee of the Pakistan cricket team has revealed that wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal may be axed from the team in all formats of the game.
The veteran wicketkeeper proved to be one of the weak links for the team in the ICC World Cup 2011.
The source said, “The fact is that the selectors had decided before the World Cup that Kamran would no longer be playing Test matches. But they had backed him to perform in the tournament so that he could be considered for limited over cricket.”
The source also revealed, “The selectors will now also decide on the future of some senior players in the limited over teams as they now plan to blood more new players in one-day and T20 cricket on the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 tour.”
Pakistan made it to the semi-final of the ICC World Cup 2011 despite being hurt by many controversies. The team were without several key players like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Amir-c76675. The trio was found guilty for spot-fixing and were charged with lengthy bans which ruled them out of the mega event.
Other than the trio, veteran cricketers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shoaib-Malik-c90088 also failed to make it to the squad for the World Cup. This left Pakistan with less hopes of advancing to the final four of the tournament.
However, the Men in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 finished on top of their group, which no one expected from them.
The team played eight matches overall in the tournament and won six out of them. Their first defeat was in a pool match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in a knockout game.
Pakistan captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 apologised to the fans, who wanted their team to qualify for the final. However, the veteran all-rounder did his job for the team, taking 21 wickets from 8 games, which are the highest of the tournament until now.
