Kamran Akmal optimistic about getting clearance
Pakistan's wicketkeeper batsman Kamran Akmal is desperate to make it into the squad for the World Cup. Akmal has cooperated with the integrity committee formed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in a bid to get clearance from the board for selection.
Kamran Akmal along with Shoaib Malik and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 (UAE). They have not been allowed to play cricket for Pakistan since the
disastrous tour of England. They were also not allowed to play league cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747. Only Mohammad Yousuf was later allowed to participate in the Bangladesh league.
Akmal said, “Whatever the PCB integrity committee has asked for, I have provided them. I have co-operated fully with the committee and I have presented all of the documents that they had requested.”
A meeting was held between the star player and the PCB’s integrity committee, and Akmal was pleased with the meeting. He stated, “The meeting was very cordial. Of course I can't go into full details of exactly what was discussed, but I hope now that this
matter is behind me and that I can now be given approval to recommence my international career.”
The PCB had to announce the preliminary squad for World Cup by 19 December, but the board requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to extend the date. The extension was granted until 5 January and the board is looking at the possibility to include
Akmal to the squad. Akmal faced match-fixing charges, but denied the allegations by saying, “I've always tried to give my best for my country and will continue to do so in future.”
The selection committee is hoping that Akmal along with Malik and Kaneria are cleared for selection, as they are considered to be important players in the subcontinent conditions. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 are already without some of their key players like Mohammad Asif,
Mohammad Amir and Salman Butt. The trio was suspended by the ICC following spot-fixing charges, and will face the ICC tribunal to decide their future in the second week of January.
