http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kamran-Akmal-c70122 to appear before PCB’s integrity committee – Cricket News Update
Out of favour, Pakistan wicketkeeper, Kamran Akmal has been asked to appear before an integrity committee formed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to scrutinize certain players suspected of match/spot-fixing.
According to sources, Akmal is to appear before the committee on 04 July, which will then give a verdict regarding his future.
Akmal is yet to clear his name through this integrity committee before he can even think of making a comeback in the national team, from which he has been discarded since the semi-final of the ICC World Cup 2011.
Barred from the national team, Akmal has, however, featured in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 Premier League this year.
PCB chairman Zaka http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashraf-c46397, while speaking to ESPNcricinfo on the matter said, “His hearing before the integrity committee is on Wednesday."
Akmal was brought under the scanners during the 2011 spot-fixing scandal in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Asif-c1993) being banned from the sport for taking bribes to deliberately play according to the wishes of certain bookies.
Akmal was contacted by the International Cricket Council’s (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) anti-corruption and security unit and asked about the events that took place during the 2010 World Twenty20 in the Caribbean, which was believed to have had some fixing.
However, Akmal has insisted that he has a clearance letter from the ICC and there is no pending investigation regarding his involvement in any wrongdoings.
Nonetheless, after losing three players to spot-fixing, PCB created an integrity committee to seek information about the assets of the players, and it was made mandatory for all players to disclose their earnings before getting cleared for selection in the national team.
Kamran, who had a terrible year behind stumps before his exclusion from the national team, is desperately seeking a return in international cricket, but critics believe his fitness and form could pose a big questions mark regarding his chances of wearing the greens once more.
Pakistan still do not have a regular wicketkeeper since Akmal’s ouster, and have been experimenting with different players series to series.
