Kamran Akmal told by ICC he can play
The International Cricket Council has informed the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 wicket-keeper batsman, Kamran Akmal that he is fit to be selected by the Pakistani side. The news comes in after there were rumours that the
reasons for the non-selection of Akmal is because he is under a match-fixing scanner of the ICC”s Anti Corruption and Security Unit.
Akmal was not selected by the PCB for Pakistan’s series against South Africa but the selectors had announced that the reason behind his non-selection was his fitness. Apparently, Akmal was to undergo a surgery
for appendicitis and hence was excluded from the side. However, he was later found fit enough to play in the first class cricket for Pakistan and even when the main Pakistani wicket-keeper against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, Zulqarnain Haider had fled to United Kingdom,
Akmal wasn’t given the call-up. Instead, it was Akmal’s younger brother, Adnan Akmal who was selected.
With the rumours of the player being excluded on the grounds of match-fixing abuzz, the senior Akmal had approached the ICC to confirm whether he was under any kind of embargo. The ICC said that there were
no such issues associated with the player and cleared his selection.
It is not for the first time that Akmal has been involved in rumours of match-fixing. Earlier, when Pakistan had gone on to lose the Sydney Test match against Pakistan in early 2010, Akmal had fluffed up
three easy chances and had come under the eyes of ICC’s ACSU. Later the ICC had also sent him a notice during the World T20 tournament in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756 Yard after the tainted Lord’s Test
match against England.
Currently, there is one other Pakistani cricketer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danish-Kaneria-c1314, who is under such a cloud of match-fixing. Kaneria was to play for the Test matches between Pakistan and South Africa but the PCB had vetoed
his selection. The reasons are said to be because of his alleged involvement in spot-fixing during his county stint in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783.
