Kamui Kobayashi: Sauber more competitive in 2011 season than last year – Formula 1 news
Sauber driver Kamui Kobayashi has said that his team is certainly more competitive in the 2011 Formula 1 season as compared to 2010.
Kobayashi added that they took an amazing start to the season, as they finished their first round in a decent manner at the 2011 Australian Grand Prix. In addition, he stated that the Hinwil-based outfit was also competitive in Monaco and Montreal race weekends
of the ongoing season.
The team driver discussed his performance in the season so far and said that they lost 10 points in the 2011 Melbourne race weekend, as both of the drivers were disqualified from the race. After that, he had punctures in the Turkish and Barcelona Grands
Prix and then, he suffered with gearbox issues in the 2011 Silverstone and Italian race weekends.
However, the Japanese driver mentioned that he has experienced a lot of ups and downs during the races of the season so far. In other words, he said that the 2011 Formula 1 season has been ‘mixed’ for him in terms of results.
Kobayashi commented, “You can add to that the fact not all our technical developments during the season brought the progress we expected. So far it has been a mixed season with ups and downs, but it isn't over yet.”
Apart from that, the 25-year-old driver mentioned that he is looking forward to racing in his country, which is taking place on October 9, 2011 at the Suzuka circuit. He added that he is hopeful the 2011 Japanese Grand Prix will be positive for the nation
after the tsunami and earthquake disasters which hit the country earlier in the year.
He went on to mention, “The Grand Prix is a very big event in Japan, it is something very positive for the people and for the country, and also because of the international awareness the race brings. So we are going racing there, as we have done in previous
years, despite the tragedy that has hit the country.”
In the recently held Singapore Grand Prix, Kobayashi finished his race at the 14th place after starting from the 17th position at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
Let’s see how Kobayashi performs during his home race at the Suzuka circuit next weekend.
