Kamui Kobayashi aims to perform well with updated C31 in 2012 Monaco GP – Formula 1 news
Sauber-Ferrari driver Kamui Kobayashi says he is aiming to perform well with the updated C31 in 2012 Monaco Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit de Monaco on May 27.
The Japanese driver secured an impressive fifth place finish in the last race at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona after setting off from 9th grid position.
Moreover, he attributed his competitive finish in Spanish GP to the updates which they had made during the three-day in-season test held at Mugello circuit due to which there has been a significant improvement in the pace of the car as compared to the preceding
season.
He added that he is confidently looking forward for a better performance in Monaco as compared to the last year. In addition, he emphasised that role of the driver is also crucial for a good outcome in the race.
“I think our car will be better in Monaco than it was last year because it has improved in slow corners. In 2011 I finished fifth, so the target should be to finish higher up this year. However, even if you are given the best car in Monaco, in the end a
lot is down to the driver to get the ultimate tenths of a second out of it,” he said.
Besides, he said that they have been able to make progress in the areas in which they wanted to while he admired the balance of the car.
He added, “I also feel with the update we can now handle the tyre management better during the race. We had been a bit weak on that side before.”
He is currently standing at 11th place in the drivers’ championship with 19 points. Furthermore, he is 3 points behind his teammate, Sergio Perez and 4 points ahead of Paul di Resta of Force India.
Over and above, the Swiss team, presently at 7th position in the constructors’ standings, is making the best of the efforts so as to make the essential preparations and the substantial developments in the car in order to enhance its pace for the forthcoming
races.
