Kamui Kobayashi disappointed with his result at Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Japanese driver Kamui Kobayashi has said that he is quite disappointed with his performance at the Canadian Grand Prix since he started from second place on the grid after the race restart after which the car’s performance deteriorated massively when the
track dried.
Kobayashi finished in 7th place in the end even though he could have done much better. The Sauber driver qualified in 13th place but due to the unpredictable conditions, safety car periods and the confusing race restart, the young Japanese
somehow managed to drive for 24 laps without pitting as a result of which, his track position upgraded to 2nd place.
On lap 50, Kamui slipped behind Michael Schumacher after which he was unable to maintain the pace and ended up with just 6 points.
Kobayashi stated that scoring points was quite important for the team which they achieved but they could have scored better results keeping in mind his position until the race restart.
“We have scored points and in the end this is most important. We have proved we are good in the wet, but when the track became dry my pace wasn't good enough to defend my position. Originally I qualified 13th so then it is not bad to finish seventh, but
on the other hand I started second after the long red flag and looking from there the result is disappointing. I really tried to bring the car home in a better position, but it didn't work out,” said Kobayashi.
Since Sergio Perez did not take part in the Canadian Grand Prix due to medical reasons. The team’s test driver Pedro de la Rosa replaced him for this race and finished in 12th place. The team as a result did not score as much as they could have
in total but their performance in wet conditions was quite impressive especially since Kobayashi made his way up the grid from 13th place to the 2nd place in just a matter of 24 laps.
Other than that, it was quite surprising to see him drive like that in those conditions since drivers like Lewis Hamilton, Mark Webber and other top drivers were finding it hard to drive.
