Kamui Kobayashi eager to strike back in 2012 Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Sauber-Ferrari driver Kamui Kobayashi is eagerly looking forward to perform well in 2012 Canadian Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve on June 10.
Kobayashi could not score even a single point in Monaco GP as he was retired after his collision in the first corner during the race. However, he said that he will strike back in the approaching race as he believes that they have a car which is competent
enough to perform well on the track in Montreal.
“At the circuit in Montreal there are long straights but also slow corners,” he said. “I think our car seems to be okay for this. I hope there we can have performance we want to see. Last year I was second on the grid for the re-start after the red flag
for the wet conditions, but then we suffered with tyre warm up problems and I am sure we have definitely improved on that with this year's car. We shall have to see what we can do, but I think Montreal is one of places where we can be strong.”
The Japanese driver is presently standing at 12th place in the drivers’ championship with 19 points. Moreover, he is 4 points ahead of Bruno Senna of Williams and 2 points behind Paul di Resta of Force India.
On the other hand, his teammate, Sergio Perez is currently at 10th position in the drivers’ rankings with 22 points. Furthermore, he is just 1 point ahead of Di Resta and 7 points behind Pastor Maldonado of Williams.
It will be important to mention that Perez secured an impressive second podium finish in the second race held at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia on wet track behind the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari which is his career’s best performance
so far. Conversely, he could not be able to score any point in the last four races.
Nonetheless, he said that he is aiming to deliver his best in the forthcoming races so as to score some reasonable points in order to make his position stronger in this year’s championship.
