Kamui Kobayashi feels confident about his 2013 race seat in Sauber – Formula 1 news
Sauber driver Kamui Kobayashi has said that he is feeling confident about his race seat in his current team for the 2013 Formula 1 season after having conversations with his Japanese sponsors.
Kobayashi expressed his concerns about his future in the sport after the team principal of the Hinwil based squad, Monisha Kaltenborn asserted that they have not finalised their next year’s driver line-up yet and are evaluating the options.
However, following the news of Force India driver, Nico Hulkenberg’s move to the Swiss team in the next season, the Japanese driver is now feeling positive about his race seat with a strong backing of his sponsors.
The 26-year-old has said that he needs to work really hard to secure his race seat for the coming year. Besides, he said that he has to perform well in the remaining three grands prix of the ongoing season. He also said that he is not limiting his options
and will try to seek place in other teams too.
“We have to work hard to get next year's seat and I'm pretty confident for my seat, for sure,” Kobayashi said. “We need to focus for the rest of three races, but we don't have many seats so this is also another big question. I will try to focus on both together,
for results and also to get a seat at another team or the same team, I don't know.”
Additionally, he said that he is hoping to get some potential sponsors after securing an incredible third podium finish in the Japanese Grand Prix.
“I think after Suzuka that Japan is more interested in motorsport and especially Formula One,” he said.
“My preference is to bring a sponsor from Japan to make F1 more popular in Japan," he added.
At present, he is standing at 11th place in the drivers’ championship. Furthermore, he is ahead of Hulkenberg and is behind his teammate, Sergio Perez who is going to join McLaren in the next season as Lewis Hamilton’s replacement.
It will be very interesting to see how he shows up in the remainder of the season.
