Kamui Kobayashi happy with points finish after poor qualifying round of German GP – Formula 1
Sauber-Ferrari driver Kamui Kobayashi has said that he is happy to manage some points for his team in the 2011 Formula 1 German Grand Prix following a poor qualifying round in Nürburgring on Saturday, July 23, 2011.
After scoring some points for the team in the Nürburgring race weekend, Kobayashi was thankful to the team for an excellent job after a disappointing qualifying round at the German race circuit.
The Japanese driver also mentioned that after a successful German Grand Prix, he is hoping for another positive race weekend in Hungary, which will be held on July 31, 2011.
Talking to the reporters, Kobayashi said, “The fact we have scored points is down to a very good pit stop strategy. Our pace just wasn't good enough here. My start was good, and I was able to overtake both Williams during the race, but it was impossible
to get Michael (Schumacher) - he was way too fast on the straights.”
The 24-year-old driver’s start in the German Grand Prix was not so good, but he made a lot of struggle for his best finish and overtake Williams driver Pastor Maldonado and Force India’s Paul di Resta in the closing laps of the race. He ended up at the ninth
place ahead of Renault’s Vitaly Petrov.
The race results of Kobayashi were impressive for the team. However, the team is hoping for more improvements in terms of performance from him in the Hungarian Grand Prix next weekend.
On the other hand, his teammate Sergio Perez has said that he was not happy with his 11th place finish in the Nürburgring race as he was expecting to score some points for the team in the German Grand Prix.
The Mexican stated, “I am angry with myself because, I made a mistake on lap eight, which is why I had to pit early and change tyres. This obviously was not what was planned in the strategy. We recovered a bit from there, but not enough for points, which
were my aim.”
The youngest F1 driver praised the performance of his teammate and said that it was possible for Kobayashi to manage points for the team, but not for him.
Let’s see how both of the drivers perform in the upcoming Hungarian race weekend.
